How to Connect Your JD Supra & LinkedIn Accounts using ‘Legal Updates’

[One of a series on how to use a particular aspect of JD Supra’s Legal Updates application on LinkedIn. See also: how to recommend, share, save documents and how to customize feeds…]

What: learn how to join your LinkedIn and JD Supra accounts to maximize exposure on both platforms.

How:

After you add Legal Updates on LinkedIn, you’ll find yourself on your custom Legal Updates Home, which includes a feed of documents matched to your profession/industry and, lower on the page, space for your JD Supra portfolio with the following message:

This will take you to Account Management within Legal Updates, as shown below – specifically to a page in Account Management that reads:

Look for the prompt “Already a JD Supra Member?”

Enter your existing JD Supra login ID and password – then click to “Link My Accounts.” This is a one-time action. (You can choose to disconnect accounts at any time.)

If You’ve Already Installed Legal Updates…

 
At any time, click the “Account” tab anywhere in the Legal Updates application. Scroll down the page looking for a Status update indicating whether your accounts are connected, as shown below:

Click “Link your accounts” now and follow the same process explained above (entering JD Supra login and password information).

Now, your accounts are connected. Every time you upload a document in either JD Supra or LinkedIn, it will be included on both platforms. Additionally your portfolio of JD Supra documents is visible to everyone on your LinkedIn profile. Finally, and most importantly:

When you connect your JD Supra and LinkedIn accounts, anyone who reads your work in LinkedIn can choose to add you to their network with a single click:

The next time you log in to your JD Supra account (at JDSupra.com), look for the “Sync to LinkedIn Now” prompt in several places on your Account Management page. Follow the steps to connect from JD Supra to LinkedIn.

This last, important step means that every time you upload a new document while on JD Supra (versus while inside LinkedIn using Legal Updates), your connections can read about it via a LinkedIn network update.

Bonus Bonus Tip: Promote Your Feed

Now that your JD Supra portfolio is included in your LinkedIn profile, inform your connections so they can see your work there. Tell them to click “Subscribe” at the end of your document list – your content (and future uploads) will be included in their own feed of Legal Updates on LinkedIn:

Bonus Bonus Bonus Tip: Remember…

…if you want your JD Supra documents on your LinkedIn profile, at time of installation, make sure both default settings are selected, as shown below:

“Display on LinkedIn homepage” brings a custom feed of legal updates by others directly to your homepage.
